How to Romance Triss or Yennefer in Witcher 3, and What Happens If You Try Both
The exact choices that lock in a romance with Triss or Yennefer, the deadlines you must not miss, and what happens in It Takes Three to Tango if you romance both.

Updated October 2026. Geralt can end The Witcher 3 with Triss Merigold or Yennefer of Vengerberg, and each romance is decided by a single line of dialogue in one quest. Try to keep both and the game makes you pay for it. Here is exactly when each choice happens, the deadlines you must not miss, and what changes later.
Quick answer
Triss: finish her quest Now or Never and, when she is about to sail away, tell her "Stay. I love you." Yennefer: do The Last Wish in Skellige and, after the djinn is freed, tell her you love her. Both: say "I love you" to both and the quest It Takes Three to Tango triggers later: they trick Geralt, leave him chained to a bed, and you lose both romances. Deadlines: Now or Never fails if you start The Isle of Mists first; The Last Wish fails if you pick up Uma at Crow's Perch (Ugly Baby) first.

How to romance Triss
- Get close in Novigrad. Triss's questline includes A Matter of Life and Death, where she brings Geralt to a masquerade ball. It is a romantic quest, but the real decision comes later.
- Do Now or Never. Help Triss smuggle the mages out of Novigrad. Complete it before starting The Isle of Mists or it fails.
- Say the line. At the docks, as Triss is about to board the ship, tell her "Stay. I love you." She leaves, then comes back, and the two spend the night in the lighthouse. Any other answer and she sails away for good.

How to romance Yennefer
- Unlock The Last Wish. In Skellige, after finding Skjall in the well at Freya's Garden, Yennefer asks Geralt to meet her at the warrior's hall in Larvik.
- Find the djinn. Follow the quest to the sea, where Yennefer summons the djinn on a boat. It is too strong to control, so fight it on deck until it weakens and she can bargain with it.
- Say the line. With the magic bond between them broken, Yennefer says nothing feels different. Tell her you love her and they kiss on the boat, then return to her room in Kaer Trolde. Tell her you don't want to be with her and you stay friends.
- Watch the deadline. The Last Wish fails if you retrieve Uma from Crow's Perch during the main quest Ugly Baby before finishing it.

Can you romance both Triss and Yennefer?
You can say "I love you" to both, but it backfires. During Final Preparations, after Ciri's meeting with the Lodge of Sorceresses, both women approach Geralt with an invitation. This starts the main quest It Takes Three to Tango, and it cannot be avoided once triggered: it blocks Final Preparations until you play it.
Bring two bottles of the requested wine to the Kingfisher Inn in Novigrad. Upstairs, Triss and Yennefer welcome Geralt, push him onto the bed and put him in manacles, then take the wine and leave him chained there. After this, neither will be with Geralt, which also changes small details of the ending and the Blood and Wine epilogue.
What your choice changes later
- Endings: the woman you chose shapes Geralt's final scenes in the base game. Losing both leaves him alone.
- Blood and Wine: in the expansion's epilogue at Geralt's vineyard, Corvo Bianco, the woman you romanced can join him. The letter that starts the mutations quest also comes from Triss if you romanced her, and from Yennefer otherwise.
Triss or Yennefer: which should you choose?
There is no wrong answer. Yennefer is Geralt's great love in the books and the story leans on their bond and on Ciri, who sees her as a mother. Triss gives a warmer, gentler relationship and the beautiful lighthouse scene. Pick the one you like, and say "I love you" to only one of them.
