Updated September 26, 2026. Captain Price is back, and this time he is on the run. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, with campaign early access a week earlier for digital pre-orders. Here is everything you need to know before launch: release date, platforms, editions and prices, pre-order bonuses, the campaign story, what is new in multiplayer, DMZ, and the full PC requirements.

Release Date and Platforms

Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on October 23, 2026. It is a current-generation release: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version. Activision has not yet published exact global unlock times; we will add them here as soon as they are announced.

Editions, Prices and Pre-Order Bonuses

Digital Standard owners can upgrade to the Vault Edition for $30. If you own and played a qualifying Call of Duty from Modern Warfare (2019) through Black Ops 7 on the same platform, you get 10% off the Vault Edition.

Digital pre-order bonuses:

• Campaign Early Access from October 16 on all platforms, including Switch 2.
• The Hunter Killer Operator skin, usable right away in Black Ops 7 and Warzone.
• The Inner Circuit M4 weapon blueprint.
• The Gilded Pearl camo pack (the first 100,000 players to earn 5,000 Skulls in Black Ops 7 Season 05 also get a serialized camo).

Campaign: North Korea, Price on the Run

The campaign opens with North Korea invading South Korea, starting with an attack on Hajin City, and takes you across Korea, New York, Paris and Mumbai. Task Force 141 has been disbanded, and after assassinating General Shepherd, Captain Price is a fugitive. Ghost and Gaz are ordered to bring him in, while Price forms an uneasy alliance with Valeria "El Sin Nombre" Garza of the Las Almas cartel. New faces include ROK soldier Pvt. Park Hyun Jun, and the main threat is a mysterious figure known as "The Archer", who is hunting for a secret weapon. Kate Laswell also returns.

Multiplayer: What Is New

• Maps: 12 core 6v6 maps at launch, including Seoul, Mumbai and a French rail terminal, plus Kill Block, a modular map with over 500 layouts.
• Weapons: 33 at launch.
• New mode: Inflation, where kills drop cash bounties, alongside all the classic modes.
• Movement: mantle straight into a slide, keep momentum over obstacles, steer during mantles, climb pipes with fast descents, and hang with 360° rotation.
• Gunplay: no hipfire bloom, a unified field of view and more readable recoil.
• Loadouts: a redesigned Create-a-Class, "Gunny" preset builds, Apex Attachments and dual Prestige paths.
• New equipment: Trip Wire, Smoke Wall and Bomb Glider.

DMZ, Warzone and Zombies

DMZ returns as a solo or squad extraction mode with dynamic weather. Warzone integrates Modern Warfare 4 content with Season 1, and Warzone support is ending on PS4 and Xbox One. There is no Zombies mode this year, according to reports; Activision has focused on the campaign, multiplayer and DMZ.

The Beta Is Over

The Early Access beta ran from August 21 to 25, and the free Open Beta from August 28 to September 1, including Switch 2. Beta progression does not carry over, but the eight cosmetic beta rewards unlock at launch.

Modern Warfare 4 also requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot on PC, and uses shader preloading, so let it finish before your first match.
