How to Open the Cheat Console on PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox

Every build cheat is typed into the same cheat bar. It appears as a small text box at the top-left of the screen in live mode, build mode or the world map.

Move objects is the cheat that turns build mode into a sandbox. With it on, you can push a chair halfway into a table, stack plants on shelves, put decorations on a fence, or layer several rugs. It is also what lets the 9 and 0 height keys work on most objects.

Be careful with functional items. A Sim cannot use a toilet, bed or stove that is clipped into a wall or blocked by another object, so check routing in live mode after a session of free placement. Turn it off when you are done if you want the game to warn you about blocked items again.

bb.showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects

These two are mainly for decorators. Hidden objects add debug items to the catalog, which you can find by typing debug into the Buy mode search bar. Live edit objects add the environmental pieces the developers used to dress the neighborhoods, which is useful for landscaping and lot borders.

Neither has an off switch. The items stay in your catalog until you quit the game, and anything you placed stays on the lot afterwards.

bb.enablefreebuild and freerealestate

Free build is the cheat for editing lots the game normally locks. Freerealestate is different: it is a money cheat for moving in, not an editing cheat, and it only works when typed on the world or neighborhood screen, not in live mode. Many of the tricks people call "cheats" are simply keyboard shortcuts. They work in every save, with or without the cheat console.

How to Resize Objects in The Sims 4

A common question is whether resizing needs testingcheats. It does not. Pick up an object with the hand tool, then press ] to make it larger or [ to make it smaller. On older guides you will see Shift + ] and Shift + [; that version of the shortcut is what some keyboard layouts need, so try it if the plain keys do nothing.

The game will not shrink an object below its original size, and there is a maximum enlargement. Resizing works best on decor such as plants, paintings and sculptures. Doors, windows and some functional objects can look broken or stop lining up with walls, so stick to decorative pieces.

With bb.moveobjects on, hold an object and press 9 to raise it or 0 to lower it. This is how builders float shelves, hang plants above counters, sink a bed into a platform or put books on a high shelf. Each key press moves the object a small step, so tap repeatedly for larger changes.

Off-grid placement with Alt

Holding Alt while you place an object ignores the grid snap, so you can nudge items in tiny increments or line them up with an angled wall. Combined with move objects, Alt placement is the backbone of detailed interior decorating.

Rotating objects

Use the comma and period keys, or right-click while holding an object, to turn it in 45-degree steps. For any angle, hold Alt and drag the object while rotating; some guides note this works most smoothly with the Sims 3 camera, toggled with Ctrl + Shift + Tab.

Build Cheats on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S

The console edition uses the same cheat codes as PC. EA states that build mode codes such as bb.moveobjects and bb.showhiddenobjects are "fair game" on console, while any cheat that first needs testingcheats true disables achievements and trophies for that save only.

Controller combinations for resizing and height come from community guides rather than EA, and the exact prompts can shift after console updates. • Toggled off by accident. Typing bb.moveobjects with no "on" or "off" toggles it, so entering it twice cancels it. Use the explicit on form.
