A game about moving stuff around does not seem to be something that Is enjoyable, even if it involves a group of friends, but that is where the magic starts. The creators of Moving Out has managed to create an absolute masterpiece of what would normally be a mundane repetitive task. The game supports not only you but three others to join in on the fun. The basic concept of the game revolves around loading various items from properties into your van, different items have different weights and they don’t always have to be carried down the stairs, you can load certain items up using pure creativity; just lob that bed right out of the window, Certain properties are haunted and you need to make sure that you complete all the tasks with minimum time wasted in order to rack up those juicy points.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

One can easily mistake this for a musical game judging by its retro theme, bright flashy colors and the killer soundtrack ingame, however, we can assure it is not. Lovers in a dangerous spacetime is a top-down space shooter which has some heavy references to the classic game Galagas which many of enjoyed in our early years of growing up. The game is purely multiplayer based and that is what makes the game split off from its earlier counterpart. Lovers in a dangerous spacetime supports up to 4 players at a time where all have to cooperatively control a spaceship against extraterrestrial threats; one player can man the guns, whereas another can mount the shields, one can focus on the engines and another can take up the map. The frequent battles and high paced action make this a fantastic game to kill some time when bored as the duels with the countless enemies are hardly ever a breeze, on most occasions you would be amazed as to how you managed to get out of what looked like a perilous moment. Each successful battle awards your team with gems that can be used to upgrade the ship in different departments of defense, offence, maneuverability and so on. Players also have the opportunity to free cute adorable creatures from space prisons which is basically the goal of the game. The game is one of a kind and if you're someone that likes the retro theme and catchy synth-soaked soundtracks then this might just be the game for you.

Darksiders Genesis

No list is actually complete without having a title that goes along the lines of the Diablo universe. While Darksiders Genesis is not a Diablo based game, it can surely be mistaken for one, but not to worry as this is another game that deserves its own title as a master piece. Darksiders Genesis supports both online and local co-op. The local co-op focuses on two players where they can choose to control either war or strife, who are the main playable characters in the game. The game has a level-based structure consisting of missions that can be completed in order to proceed forward. We initially felt that the game would be a grind heavy RPG where both players can amass loot through slaying mobs in game allowing one to upgrade their character but then the actual level based co-op gameplay took us by surprise; although we were a tad bit disappointed we soon grew to like the game for what is and not for what we expected it to be. The game requires both players to work synchronously together making the best out of a scenario if you wish to proceed. The game has a ton of replayability value giving it an additional reason to be on our list.

Unravel two

Unravel two - one of the best Coop games

If you are a fan of the original Unravel or if you are searching another title to add onto the list of co-op games, Unravel two is a solid choice nonetheless. The game acts as a sequel to the original Unravel which was a big hit upon release, Unravel two has the same concept only better. The game follows the friendship of Yarny and his and romorphic yarn buddy as they overcome countless obstacles and challenges. The game has both a single player option and a co-op option, but the game only truly shines in the latter. With two like minded players taking control of either characters they can proceed with satisfying fluidity as there is no need to play both characters unlike in the single player mode where one player has to control both characters at an instance to proceed. Visually the game is stunning with fascinating scenery doting the landscape you traverse through. The game proceeds at a healthy pace, where players have a healthy balance of both action and strategic puzzle solving which are both fundamental aspects of the game. Unravel two is a game about friendship starting from the moment you are introduced to the characters who are lost at sea to the end, the storyline conveys an important message of finding hope even in the darkest of times. With its crisp controls, beautiful visuals and heart gripping storyline Unravel two is a must have game for all co-op players. The only downside is the lack of online playability which would have made it perfect in all aspects.

A way out

Most games are developed to be either single player or multiplayer with a hint of co-op as option for players to go to. A way out is a game that is quite unusual as it is developed solely as a couch co-op. One of the main reasons why this game is highly renowned is thanks to well the developers managed to seamlessly integrate both local co-op and online together in a single game; if your regular partner is not available to play, one can simply connect to another player online and progress on without having to compromise their gameplay. The story follows a pair of inmates as they hitch a plan to break out prison, both players have an important role in the course of the game and each action will affect how the story progresses. The game is religiously played in a split-screen environment throughout its duration. The game has extremely good graphics and a phenomenal storyline with many twists and turns to keep the players on their toes the whole time. Electronic Arts and its development studio Hazelight have managed to piece together an absolute master piece, which in our opinion everyone needs to witness.

Cuphead

What do you get when combine old school cartoony graphics, a goofy title and some fast-paced shooting? The closest answer to it would be Cuphead. Don’t let the childish exterior of the game give you a false sense of ease as the game is literally one of the hardest co-op shooters out there and it will test your skill and perseverance throughout its course. The game supports up to two players where one has to take the role of the sidekick, namely, Mugman. The game is not for everyone however, its unique artstyle, theme, intensiveness can be massive kick to many but if this is your piece of pie then you have something that will last you a very long time. The game visibly shows the pains the developers have gone into creating it as the effort is truly outstanding. The game has a notoriously low completion rate coming in at only 1.3% mainly because of its hardcore nature. Cuphead is littered with boss battles which becomes even harder when encompassing a second player. Our opinion on this controversial game is that it is a work of art, and like all forms of art it won’t be for everyone as its hardcore style gameplay can often make the game more frustrating than being enjoyable. But if this is what you have been searching for in a co-op game, then look no further as you have stumbled upon a true gem that is sure to captivate you throughout its course.

Diablo III

Diablo III - Eternal Collection

One can say that Diablo III is the god father of same screen co-op gaming as it brought forth an entire to the next level. The fantasy themed monster hunting frenzy allows up to four players to take part simultaneously in combat. The co-op aspect of the game is nearly flawless as the game scales the difficulty of the game based off the number of players in a instance, while this may put off a certain demographic it should be noted that a game is better off being challenging than being a breeze. Players can even drop in and out of game without interrupting the gameplay giving forth towards some epic interrupted game time. Single player or multiplayer, Diablo III offers some of the best combat systems out there allowing one to effortlessly control their character with some pretty cool customizations. This is a must have game and the thousands of impressed gamers over the years solidify its position on this list.

Gears of War 4

Gears of War 4

This took a bit of consideration as both Gears of War 4 and Gears of War 5 are both great games in their own way but we felt Gears of War 4 truly deserved its spot on the list as the additions that came along with Gears of War 5 didn’t really boost the co-op side of the game. Gears of war 4 allows players to experience the whole game in a local co-op perspective where the first player can control JD Fenix, Marcus’ son and the second player can alternate between Kait or Del. The game’s extensive campaign is an absolute beast with a good balance of both strategy and shooting. The Horde mode is another reason why this game is still considered to be one of the best co-op couch shooters even to date. Overall, you can pick either Gears of war 4 or Gears of war 5 but when taking the co-op point of gameplay into account we felt Gears of War 4 holds a better position among the two.

Thus, concludes our list of the best couch co-op games out there in the market for enthusiasts. While there are of course many more games such as FIFA 20 and Borderlands we felt these games define the genre much better than a majority of the titles out there.
