A good witcher will definitely need the best armor and suitable weapons in order to hack at monsters and fulfill contracts without any problems. Unfortunately, Geralt himself cannot forge a weapon; he can only repair it if he finds the necessary set. Where to forge a workshop equipment?
There are two craftsmen in the game who are engaged in this (there is also a smith-grandmaster, but you will meet him at the very end of the second major addition). The master bronzer is located in Velen, in Crow's Perch, the castle of the Bloody Baron. But the master gunsmith is in Novigrad, and in this guide we will learn how to “unlock” him.
The opportunity to make workshop swords appears after completing the “Swords and dumplings” task, which can be obtained upon arrival in Novigrad. The task is designed for level 24, and if you go to perform it in small lvlah, you will hardly get any experience, and maybe you will not pass at all, because there will have to fight. So I advise you first to pump up, at least up to level 20, and then only take it as a task. Let's get to the point.
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, quest “Swords and dumplings” - Walkthrough
The task does not appear automatically and it can not be found on the bulletin board. To get the quest, ask blacksmiths in Velen and Novigrad if they can forge master weapons, and if not, who can. But you can do even easier and just run to the right place, indicated on the map.
When you reach the master smith of Éibhear Hattori, you will find a dispute between two men about the fact that the blacksmith refuses to repair his own weapon, although he did guarantee quality. And he, you see, is now engaged only in molding vareniki, and the repair does not interest him. Going into the building, we will find the elf at the very same occupation - modeling vareniki.
During a conversation with a former blacksmith, he immediately recognizes the Witcher in Geralt from two swords with a silver edging behind his back, which the White Wolf will be very surprised at. From the conversation it will become clear that before you is a professional blacksmith who, for some reason, retired and engaged in cooking. He will definitely be able to forge masterful weapons, if he returns to the ranks.
In the dialogue, you will even have the opportunity to try Hattori’s concoction and praise her, and then ask if he can forge a good sword for the witcher. Here we find out why the blacksmith abandoned his work. Not long ago, the entire Kuznetsk market in Novigrad was taken under his wing by Ernst van Hoorn, who has good connections with Tesak, one of the leaders of the criminal world in Novigrad. His people help restrain the disgruntled and do not allow other smiths to do their work. Therefore, the elf had to retrain as a cook, preparing the redan dumplings.
All those who disobeyed Ernst were punished. Or beaten, or intimidated, or made disabled. Hattori, as an elf, would be threatened with execution if he continued to continue to engage in blacksmithing (thanks to racism, relatively bad people in Novigrad and the situation). Despite the threats, Hattori could not completely abandon his favorite activity, as evidenced by his basement, which still had billets, armor and weapons from times gone by.
The elf has not lost hope, so he will ask Geralt for help. Simply go with him to meet with the people of the King of Beggars and arrange for the supply of materials. Geralt will only need to attend the meeting as a support and bodyguard. As a reward for the assignment, the armorer promised to forge a great sword personally for Geralt. Of course, we agree.
Go to the designated place, focusing on the label on the map.
Possible bugs - Hattori does not appear
Running to the designated place, meditate until dark. Just sunset is not suitable, we must still squander a few hours ahead.
Attention! A known bug in which Hattori does not appear in the designated location. Hattori is gone and that's it. Do not rush to panic and load the preservation, try to meditate another day until 6 pm the next day, and then meditate for 1 hour and check whether it appeared or not. If not, you'll have to log in before talking to him.
Having seen you, the blacksmith will immediately call the witcher and will offer to go to negotiations with the bandits. The leader of the gang, Tin, will offer the blacksmith the most unfair conditions - 50% of all income the blacksmith will give them.
We are not satisfied with this option, so we select the option “At a bargain”, after it “Still a lot”, and when we need to quickly select an answer option, we answer “No, no, no”. The gangster will have nothing left but to accept our offer and .... Tesac people will appear on this wonderful note. The Dwarf will not like the fact that something is happening on their territory, so a scuffle will begin. If you came 20+ level, then problems should arise. Use the poison of the hanged man, Quen for protection and Aksiy to enter one of the opponents into a stupor and immediately beat.
Hattori lost - where to look for a blacksmith
After the gangster clashes, the blacksmith, not accustomed to bloodshed, will immediately run away. We'll have to run after him and speak again in the blacksmith's shop, a master of dumplings. Hattori is afraid and refuses to engage in the craft until he has security, even though we have already agreed on the supply of goods. But he has one guard in mind who can provide a good “roof.” His friend’s name is Sukrus and Skellige, and Hattori himself cannot ask him for help, because they are in a quarrel, so he sends Geralt.
Where to find Sukrus
You can find Sukrus in “The Golden Sturgeon”, where he likes to spend time. Running up to the tavern, you will see a cut-scene, in which two men mutuit each other with their fists. Geralt will try to find out what is happening here, and who among them is Sucrus, how he will attack the witcher with his fists. Again, if you went at least 20+ level and already have hand-to-hand combat experience, then there should be no problems.
After the fight, the Skellig hero recognizes his brother as a witch and offers to drink. At the table we find out the reason for the quarrel between two men near the bar: Sukrus quarreled with his son-in-law because he forced Sukrus to bring honey with Skellige, but he did not pay for it. He didn’t mind turning a hattori guard, but only after we deal with his current problem, namely, we will persuade his son-in-law to return the promised money.
We jump on the ships to get to his son-in and talk to him. If you pump Aksiy up to level 2, then you can use it in the dialogue, and the trick is in the bag. This is the easiest solution to the problem, besides, you will get additional experience.
How to destroy a product
If not, you will have to destroy the goods brought from Skelliga. Burning goods is not the best solution, it is enough to break the barrels with Aard. Sorry honey, of course, but otherwise nothing. To do this, go to the barrels that are on the ship, and zhahnut over them. The merchant will run away, but the local team will attack the witcher. Having dealt with them, we return to the customer. If Sukrus disappeared and he is not in place, meditate for a few hours, after which he should appear.
Whatever way you do not use, the order is executed, which means Sucrus will now take over the protection of the legendary blacksmith. Go back to Hattori, and there will be security guard near the door. And, like, everything is settled, you can go back to work, but no. The elf still lacks raw materials, which Ernst van Hoorn bought out cheaply, taking advantage of the fact that he had no competitors left. Do nothing, we go to deal with it.
For the return of materials, we will need to get into the warehouse of van Hoorn and mark the boxes that smell like ammonia. Sucrus would not cope with this, because he has a very bad sense of smell, unlike the Witcher mutant. After this, the people of Sukrus will arrive in time and pull the necessary chests out of the warehouse.
On the approach to the repository, we will meet with the guard: the red men and the already familiar son-in-law of Sukrus. He immediately recognizes the witcher and warns the short man to be on the alert. But the dwarf will dismiss warnings and ask Geralt why he came.
How to get to the warehouse
- Pay the security guard 200 CZK and send greetings from Yarpen Zigrin (a character you could meet in Witcher 2: The Killer of Kings, a monster hunter and a great White Wolf comrade).
- Use Aksy (it must be pumped up to level 2), after which you will be free to go to the warehouse and get additional experience for cheating.
Now you need to find the merchant's product with the bright smell of ammonia and mark it with a cross for the people of Sukrus. We cut in witch's flair and begin to search the warehouse.
The first box can be found in the far corner of the warehouse.
The second box is located directly opposite the first, only at the other wall of the warehouse.
The third box is harder to notice because of the cage that hides the smell, but it is located in the center of the warehouse.
Having marked all three, we leave the premises and immediately come across a cut-scene. Geralt and the guards will meet Ernst van Hoorn with his retinue, and believe me, he will be very unhappy with what is happening. About the theft from the warehouse, he learned from the same son-in-law of Surkus, who saw the witcher at the entrance. But after seeing his relative, the poor fellow will immediately take our side during the scuffle. A dialogue will appear with several remarks - choose any, after it a fight will begin anyway.
It makes no sense to kill Ernst, because he will not fall out of loot. Deal with his retinue and the trick is in the hat. You will be helped by a couple of relatives and their people, so the fight should be easy. After the fight, the unconscious van Hoorn will be sent to Skellige, from where he cannot interfere with Hattori to do his work. This decision will kill two birds with one stone and the blacksmith will no longer need protection.
We return with good news to the elf, who has already begun his favorite work. As promised, he will forge the Witcher a great sword, only he will have to go later. Meditate exactly day and return to the store Hattori. As a reward for the task Geralt will receive a relic steel sword “Blade from the Bits”.
