Updated October 2026. Child of the Elder Blood takes Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer into Avallac'h's hidden laboratory on Skellige. The exploring is easy and nothing important is missable. What matters are two timed dialogue choices near the end: both count toward Ciri's ending, and you only get a few seconds for each.

Quick answer

Choice 1 (lab): Ciri wants to wreck the place. "Go for it." is positive for Ciri; "Calm down." is negative.

Choice 2 (outside): Ciri asks you to visit Skjall's grave. "Yeah. I'll go with you." is positive; "No time." is negative.

Start: talk to Yennefer after you learn where the Sunstone is. Go to the Pali Gap Coast cave.

Reward: 300 XP. Suggested level 31.

Child of the Elder Blood Walkthrough

1. The Cave and the Golem

The quest starts when you talk to Yennefer after learning where the Sunstone is (in The Sunstone). Go to the cave entrance on the Pali Gap Coast; the signpost unlocks when the quest starts if you don't have it. When Yennefer tries to open the entrance, one of the two golems on guard wakes up. Kill it (our oils guide lists the right oil) and she finishes opening the door.

2. Search the Laboratory

A cutscene shows sketches of Ciri. Then you can look around with your witcher senses. None of this changes anything, but these are the things to find:

FindWhereMatters?
CookiesTable to the right of the sketchesNo, Geralt just comments
Caranthir's Progress (note)Small bookshelf next to the entranceLore only
Distillates and herbsA table Yennefer points out; someone was just hereNo. Gone if you go down the stairs first
HairbrushTable in the hallway to the next roomNo
Remarks Concerning the Death of AuberonRight side of the long table under Lara Dorren's genealogy, after the cutsceneLore only
Mirror and perfumeFurther inNo

Entering the next room starts a cutscene with Lara Dorren's full genealogy and Avallac'h's notes on the Elder Blood gene that Ciri carries.

3. The Woman in the Bedroom

Yennefer senses someone behind a door. Inside is an Aen Elle woman, Avallac'h's lover, who insults Ciri and claims Avallac'h secretly hates her. Answer her however you like.

Avallac'h's lover has nothing kind to say about Ciri.

4. Choice 1: "Calm Down" or "Go for It"

When you leave her room, Ciri is furious and you get a timed choice:

AnswerWhat happensCiri's ending
Go for it.Geralt and Ciri wreck the lab and she lets off steam, with a little help from Yennefer.Positive
Calm down.It doesn't work. Geralt finds Lara Dorren's necklace and puts it on her.Negative

Tell Ciri to calm down and Geralt gives her Lara Dorren's necklace instead.

Afterwards Ciri and Yennefer leave. Go back to the bedroom to loot the book Tales and Legends About Humans if you want it.

5. Choice 2: Skjall's Grave

Ciri waits outside. Walk past her: the cutscene triggers when you pass her, not when you try to interact, which confuses a lot of players. She talks about Skjall, the young Skelliger who helped her (see The Calm Before the Storm), and asks you to visit his grave on Hindarsfjall. Another timed choice:

AnswerWhat happensCiri's ending
Yeah. I'll go with you.Starts Skjall's Grave. Go now or meet her there later; it's mostly one long cutscene.Positive
No time.Ciri is very upset, and Geralt realizes his mistake.Negative
Ciri outside Avallac'h's laboratory asking about Skjall's grave
Outside the lab, Ciri asks Geralt to come with her to Skjall's grave.

Save before you leave the bedroom. Both choices are timed. If the timer runs out or you misclick, reload. They are two of the choices that decide Ciri's fate, so see our endings guide for the full list.

Either way, the quest ends with 300 XP. Then continue with Battle Preparations.

Frequently Asked Questions

QShould I tell Ciri "Calm down" or "Go for it"?

For a good Ciri ending, pick "Go for it." "Calm down." counts toward a negative ending.

QShould I go with Ciri to Skjall's grave?

Yes, if you want the good ending: "Yeah. I'll go with you." counts as positive, "No time." as negative.

QWhy won't the cutscene with Ciri outside start?

Don't interact with her. Walk past her and the cutscene triggers.

QIs anything missable in Avallac'h's lab?

Nothing important. The notes and books are lore only, and the cookies, hairbrush and mirror don't change anything.

QHow do I get into the lab?

Yennefer opens the cave door on the Pali Gap Coast, but it wakes a golem. Kill it and she finishes the job.
