Updated October 2026. Echoes of the Past is what happens after you and Yennefer steal the Mask of Uroboros in The King is Dead. Yennefer has already used it, the woods near the druids' camp are full of magic fog, and Ermion is furious. The quest itself is a short investigation: put on the mask, watch the past, kill the foglets that keep showing up, and find out where Ciri went next.

Start: go to the druids' camp. After the argument with Ermion, find Yennefer in the fog and help her kill a foglet.
The mask: stand in the lime-green sparks and use the Mask of Uroboros. It works like the magic lamp in A Towerful of Mice.
Foglets: one appears at almost every spot. Use necrophage oil and keep moving; they hide in the fog.
Next: the trail leads to the body of a Wild Hunt rider, and Ermion sends you to Hindarsfjall (Missing Persons).
Echoes of the Past Walkthrough
1. The Druids' Camp
Ride to the druids' camp. When you arrive, Yennefer and Ermion are arguing. Ermion calls her a thief and warns that the mask loses its power once it's used and could bring disaster. Yennefer has already used it, and that caused the magic storm now covering the forest. Ermion gathers the druids to calm the storm while you go look for Yennefer.
2. Find Yennefer and Kill the Foglet
Yennefer is fighting a foglet in the woods. Foglets fade into the fog and strike from behind, so keep moving, use Quen and coat your blade with necrophage oil (see our oils guide). After the fight, talk to her. She hands you the mask and casts a spell so she can see through your eyes.
3. Use the Mask of Uroboros
Follow Yennefer to the first spot. Stand in the lime-green sparks and use the mask. If you've done A Towerful of Mice, it's the same idea as the magic lamp there: you see ghosts of what happened in this place. Two figures come out of a portal, and Geralt recognizes one of them as Ciri by the way she moves.

4. Find the Body
After the last vision, Geralt, Yennefer and Ermion talk about what they saw and decide to look for the body of one of the people in the visions. Find it: it's one of the riders of the Wild Hunt.
5. Where Ciri Went
Ermion tells you the Wild Hunt was seen on Hindarsfjall a few weeks after the explosion. That's your next destination. You can go with Yennefer right away or meet her later. Going right away is easier if you don't have a fast travel point on Hindarsfjall yet.
If you don't go to Hindarsfjall right away, the next quest (Missing Persons) can fail to show up in your journal. Go back to the druids' camp and walk to the spot where Echoes of the Past ended; that fixes it.
