Updated October 2026. Blood on the Battlefield is the quiet quest after The Battle of Kaer Morhen, and it matters more than it looks. You bury Vesemir, Ciri tries to deal with her grief, and you decide where she goes next. Two of the choices here count toward which ending you get, so this is a quest to play carefully.
Quick answer
Ciri's mood: pick the line that starts the snowball fight. It counts in Ciri's favor. Getting drunk instead doesn't.
Where next: "All right, Velen it is" goes straight to Bald Mountain. "Gotta visit the emperor first" takes Ciri to Vizima, which opens the Empress ending.
In Vizima: refuse Emhyr's money. Ciri is proud of you; taking it makes her lose faith in you.

Blood on the Battlefield Walkthrough
1. Vesemir's Funeral
The quest opens with the funeral on the mountain above Kaer Morhen. Talk to the survivors if you like, then head north down the hill to the keep, where Avallac'h, Triss, Yennefer and Ciri are waiting. Talk to Avallac'h about what to do next.
2. Cheer Up Ciri (Choice 1)
Ciri is struggling with what happened. You have two ways to respond:

The next morning, Ciri says Imlerith will be the guest of honor at the witches' sabbath on Bald Mountain in Velen. Keep talking until you pick one of these:

4. In Vizima: The Money (Choice 2)
If you went to Vizima, you reach the palace gardens a week later and answer Emhyr. A servant then brings a chest of coins: the rest of your fee from Imperial Audience.

Ciri and Emhyr then talk in private. In the great hall, Voorhis mentions Ciri becoming Empress, and she cuts him off angrily. The quest ends, and Act III begins with Bald Mountain.
