Updated October 3, 2026. Letho of Gulet, the Kingslayer from The Witcher 2, only appears in The Witcher 3 if he survived the end of the previous game. If he did, you find him hiding at Reardon Manor near Lindenvale in Velen during two linked side quests, "The Fall of the House of Reardon" and "Ghosts of the Past". If you help him fake his death, you can invite him to fight at the Battle of Kaer Morhen. Quick answer
To meet Letho you must have spared him in The Witcher 2, either by importing a save or by telling Morvran Voorhis he lived during Imperial Audience. The default world state counts him as dead. Then go to Reardon Manor near Lindenvale in Velen (suggested level 6). At the Lindenvale ambush, do not interfere and hand over his medallion so the bounty hunters believe he is dead. After that, invite him to Kaer Morhen. Guides advise finishing this before The Isle of Mists.
Who Is Letho of Gulet?
Letho is a witcher of the School of the Viper and the main antagonist of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Working for the Nilfgaardian Empire, he killed Northern kings, including Demavend of Aedirn and Foltest of Temeria, to weaken the North before Nilfgaard invaded. The wiki notes he once owed Geralt his life, because Geralt saved him from a slyzard attack years earlier. That debt is why he spares Geralt after their first duel.

How to Make Sure Letho Is Alive
- Import a Witcher 2 save (PC) in which you spared Letho.
- Simulate a save. When starting a new game, choose to simulate the Witcher 2 world state. During Imperial Audience in Vizima, Morvran Voorhis asks about Geralt's past while he is being shaved. Say Geralt spared Letho.

Where to Find Letho: Reardon Manor, Velen
Letho is hiding at Reardon Manor near Lindenvale in Velen. You can arrive in two ways: take the secondary quest "The Fall of the House of Reardon" from Dolores Reardon or the notice board, or simply head to the manor. Both quests carry a suggested level of 6, but the manor is trapped and the later fights are against groups of humans, so arrive with decent armor and Quen.

Ghosts of the Past Walkthrough
- Enter the manor. Head to the left door of the western house to trigger a cutscene, then go into the barn to the south.
- Find Letho. Examine the ladder on the ground in one of the southern stables to reach the loft. Finding him is worth 25 XP.
- Fight the bounty hunters. Eight hunters storm the barn. Use Quen and keep moving so you do not get surrounded.
- Ride with Letho. Follow him on horseback to Louis's camp. You learn Letho was betrayed by Arnout Vester, and you fight Louis and four of his men (50 XP).
- Do not refuse to go with him. The quest fails if you decline to accompany Letho to see Louis, or if you stray too far during the ride.
- The Lindenvale ambush. Letho is shot and the hunters want proof he is dead. This is the key choice, covered below.
The Key Choice: Interfere or Walk Away
When the hunters confront Letho at Lindenvale, you can interfere or stay out of it.
- Do not interfere (recommended). Surrender his witcher medallion to the hunters. This is Letho's plan: they report him dead, and he is free to disappear.
- Interfere. You end up fighting four more bounty hunters. Guides recommend walking away instead, since the medallion route is what Letho wants.
Either way, Letho now needs somewhere to hide. Geralt can suggest he lies low at Kaer Morhen. Accept that option to recruit him for the battle.
Letho at the Battle of Kaer Morhen
If you invited him, Letho is one of the optional allies at the Battle of Kaer Morhen. That battle rewards you for finishing the "Brothers in Arms" recruitment quests, and allies who were killed, never helped, or never asked will not come. Your ally list can also include Lambert, Eskel, Keira Metz, Zoltan, Hjalmar and Roche with Ves.
If Roche and Ves also come, expect friction. As one guide puts it, Temerian patriots "don't like the guy who killed Foltest", and a scene between them plays out at the keep. Missable Timing
Letho's quests are easy to miss. Guides advise finishing both The Fall of the House of Reardon and Ghosts of the Past before The Isle of Mists, which leads into the Battle of Kaer Morhen. The safest plan is to visit Lindenvale soon after you reach Velen.
