Updated October 3, 2026. Aryan La Valette does not appear in person in The Witcher 3. He is a Witcher 2 character, and his fate carries over as one of five world-state choices. You set it either by importing a Witcher 2 save or by answering Morvran Voorhis during the main quest "Imperial Audience". The only visible consequence is how his mother, Maria Louisa La Valette, treats Geralt in the Novigrad main quest "Broken Flowers". Below is who Aryan is, what to answer, and exactly what changes.
Quick answer
Aryan La Valette never shows up in The Witcher 3. If you simulate a Witcher 2 save, Morvran Voorhis asks about him in Imperial Audience. If Aryan lived, his mother Maria Louisa is friendly in Broken Flowers. If he died, she calls Geralt her son's killer and goes back inside. Who Is Aryan La Valette?
Aryan is the heir of House La Valette, a Temerian noble family. His mother is Baroness Maria Louisa La Valette, and the wiki notes "widely discussed rumors" of an affair between her and King Foltest. Anaïs and Boussy, Foltest's children, are Aryan's half-siblings.
In the prologue of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Foltest besieges La Valette Castle to take back his children, and Aryan leads its defense. He has a strong sense of honor, and the wiki mentions he grew up loving witcher stories, especially the tale of Geralt and Renfri.
Aryan's Fate in The Witcher 2
When Geralt reaches Aryan during the siege, there are three possible outcomes:

Getting him to surrender is the "good" outcome in Witcher 2 because he survives. The surrender path also leads to the quest "The Dungeons of the La Valettes".
How Aryan's Choice Gets Into The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3 tracks five major decisions from The Witcher 2: Aryan's fate, whether you sided with Roche or Iorveth, whether you saved Triss or Anaïs/Saskia, whether Síle de Tansarville lived, and whether you spared Letho. You set them in one of two ways.
- Import a save (PC only). On a new game, The Witcher 3 can read your Witcher 2 save. GameSpot notes that importing also carries over small extras such as Geralt's Blue Stripes neck tattoo.
- Simulate a save. Choose to simulate when starting a new game. During Imperial Audience in Vizima, Morvran Voorhis questions Geralt while he is being shaved, and your answers set the five choices.
If you do neither, the Witcher wiki lists these defaults: Aryan spared, sided with Roche, Anaïs saved, Síle left to die, and Letho killed.
What Changes in Broken Flowers
"Broken Flowers" is a main quest in Novigrad. Geralt tracks down Dandelion's old lovers to find the missing bard. One lead points to Molly, who works on Maria Louisa La Valette's estate in the Gildorf district, so you have to visit Aryan's mother.
If Aryan lived
Maria Louisa welcomes Geralt and the conversation is friendly. She sends you on to Molly, who is at the Vegelbud residence.
If Aryan died
Maria Louisa recognizes Geralt as her son's killer, makes her contempt clear and goes back inside.
Does it matter?
Not mechanically. The Witcher wiki states the quest progression is identical. Molly gives you the same lead on Dandelion either way, and you earn 150 XP for talking to her. No quest, ending, reward or companion depends on Aryan's fate.
What Should You Answer About Aryan?
Because nothing locks or unlocks, answer whichever way matches your Witcher 2 playthrough, or the story you want to tell.
- Say he lived for the friendlier Broken Flowers scene. It also fits the general Witcher 2 view that the surrender is the better ending for him.
- Say he died for a colder, more pointed scene that reminds Geralt of the Temerian war he was caught up in.
