Updated October 3, 2026. Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launches on October 9, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam) and, for the first time in the series, Nintendo Switch 2. If you already own Dragon's Dogma 2 on PC, PS5 or Xbox, you do not need the new bundle: the Dark Arisen expansion costs $29.99 on its own and plugs into the game you already have. The $49.99 bundle is for new players, and on Switch 2 it is the only way to buy it.
Quick answer
Dark Arisen is a paid expansion that adds the snowy northern region of Norgan, a new story with a character named Eir, 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges, relics that unlock new weapons and skills, and new hairstyles and tattoos. Existing owners on PC, PS5 and Xbox pay $29.99 for the expansion. The base game plus expansion bundle is $49.99 on every platform, and it is the only version sold on Switch 2.
What Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen actually is
Capcom announced Dark Arisen in June 2026, and its official press release describes it as a paid expansion that "adds a new story to Dragon's Dogma 2," the open-world action RPG that launched in March 2024. The name deliberately echoes Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen from 2013, which bundled the original game with the Bitterblack Isle expansion.
The important distinction is that "Dark Arisen" refers to two things at once. There is the Dark Arisen expansion, a DLC that requires the base game, and there is the Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen bundle, which is the full game with the expansion and a few extras included. Store pages use both names, so check which one you are buying before you pay.
Capcom has framed the release as part of its multi-platform push, saying it wants to offer "greater accessibility and additional content" for both returning fans and newcomers. The Switch 2 port is the clearest example of that.
What's new: Norgan, Eir and the Lost Rites
Based on the official store listings and Capcom's reveal material, the expansion adds three main things. Capcom has not published hour counts for the new content, so treat any playtime estimates you see elsewhere with caution.
The Norgan region and the Forsaken Dominion story
Norgan is a long-abandoned, snow-covered region in the north. The PlayStation Store lists the new story content as Forsaken Dominion, in which the Arisen teams up with a character named Eir to uncover the secrets of an undying Fallen Dragon. Scattered across the region are forgotten relics that unlock new weapons and skills, so exploring Norgan feeds directly into your build.
12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges
The second pillar is Lost Rites, a set of 12 dungeon challenges aimed at players who want harder fights. Beating them rewards rare equipment that, according to Capcom, was once held by past Arisen. This is the expansion's endgame hook, in the same spirit as Bitterblack Isle in the original Dark Arisen, although Capcom has not described it as a direct equivalent.
Character creator additions
The character creator gets new hairstyles and tattoos. It is a small addition, but Dragon's Dogma players tend to spend a long time in that editor.
Free updates every Dragon's Dogma 2 owner already got
Before you decide on the expansion, it helps to know that Capcom has already shipped a lot of changes for free in 2026. These updates are in the base game on PS5, Xbox and Steam whether or not you buy Dark Arisen. Highlights from Capcom's official update notes:
- June 10, 2026 update: added the reusable Eternal Ferrystone for fast travel, a Guardian pawn specialization, new Portcrystals, oxcart improvements and lower shop prices.
- June 24, 2026 update: graphical fixes for character models, audio adjustments to new pawn dialogue and a fix for an Eternal Ferrystone duplication issue.
- September 2, 2026 update: expanded save slots per Arisen from one to three, with each slot holding an Autosave, an Interim Save and a Last Inn Rest Save. It also added Dragonsbaulk Draught, an item that cures Dragonsplague, raised the number of assignable weapon skills from four to six, made frame-rate optimizations on all platforms, added new pawn commands (including Explore and High Five) and made wide-ranging vocation adjustments.
Two of the most common complaints from 2024, the single save slot and the very limited fast travel, are now addressed in the base game. If those put you off, it may be worth going back to the game you already own before spending anything.
Price and editions: expansion vs Dark Arisen bundle
Here is how the pricing breaks down in the US, based on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store and Nintendo listings and Capcom's announcement coverage.
| Product | Price (US) | Platforms | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dark Arisen expansion | $29.99 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam | Norgan, Forsaken Dominion story, 12 Lost Rites, creator additions. Requires the base game. |
| Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen (bundle) | $49.99 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam | Base game, expansion, Explorer's Camping Kit, Dragon's Dogma Music & Sound Collection |
| Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen (Switch 2) | $49.99 | Nintendo Switch 2 | Base game and expansion in one package |
| Dragon's Dogma 2 (standard) | $39.99 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam | Base game only |
The math is simple. Buying the standard game and the expansion separately costs $69.98, so the $49.99 bundle saves new players about $20 and throws in the two extras. For anyone who already owns the game, the bundle makes no sense: you would be paying for a second copy of the base game.
The pre-order bonus is the Norgan Fashion Set, a Northern Attire outfit with two visual variants. Both the expansion-only and bundle listings on PlayStation and Xbox include it. According to Prima Games, it appears in your item storage at any inn once the expansion is live. As always, nothing about a cosmetic outfit is a reason to pre-order. The expansion is digital, so it will not sell out.
Physical copies
According to a Best Buy listing reported by RPG Site, physical PS5 and Xbox copies of the bundle put the base game on the disc and the expansion in a download code. On Switch 2, retail listings show a Game-Key Card, which means the game is downloaded rather than stored on the cartridge. Nintendo's Australian page estimates the download at about 54GB, so plan for storage either way.
Upgrade path for existing Dragon's Dogma 2 owners
If you own Dragon's Dogma 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S or Steam, this is your path:
- Make sure your game is updated. The free updates arrive automatically, and the expansion will need the latest version.
- Buy the Dark Arisen expansion ($29.99) from the same store where you own the base game. Do not buy the $49.99 "Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen" product by mistake. It has almost the same name.
- Your existing Arisen, pawn and save data stay in the game you already have. The expansion adds content to that install.
There is no announced upgrade path from other platforms to Switch 2. Capcom and Nintendo have only listed the full $49.99 package there, and the expansion is not sold separately on that console. If you own the game on PS5 or PC and want a portable version, you will be paying for the whole thing again. Capcom has not announced any cross-save between Switch 2 and other platforms, so do not count on bringing your character over.
The two extras in the bundle, the Explorer's Camping Kit and the Music & Sound Collection, are also sold separately as DLC. Existing owners who want them can buy them individually. They are not part of the $29.99 expansion.
Dark Arisen on Nintendo Switch 2
This is the first Dragon's Dogma game on Switch 2. It was revealed in the June 2026 Nintendo Direct and launches on the same day as the other versions. Here is what has been confirmed:
- Price: $49.99 / £44.99 for the base game plus expansion.
- Frame rate: the game targets 30fps docked and in handheld mode. It also has optional frame generation that brings motion up to an "equivalent" 60fps. Producer Naoto Oyama told Nintendo Life that interpolation can be imperfect in some situations, with occasional ghosting. Capcom says this is its first Switch 2 game to use frame generation.
- Modes: TV, tabletop and handheld. Cloud saves are available with a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- Extras: Nintendo Life reports a free character creator and storage app on the eShop, so you can build your Arisen before launch.
Performance is the open question. Dragon's Dogma 2 was a demanding game on PS5 and PC at launch, especially in cities, and nobody outside Capcom has tested the final Switch 2 build yet. Wait for independent performance tests after October 9 before you buy this version, especially if you plan to play mostly handheld. Our best Switch 2 games of 2026 list will be updated once reviews arrive.
PC system requirements
Capcom has not published separate PC requirements for the expansion. The Steam listing for Dragon's Dogma 2 shows the following, and they apply to Dark Arisen because it runs on the same base game:
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 11 (64-bit) | Windows 11 (64-bit) |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-8500 / AMD Ryzen 5 3500 | Intel Core i7-10700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| GPU | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 / AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT (8GB VRAM) | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super / AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
| Network | Broadband connection | Broadband connection |
Dragon's Dogma 2 is known for being CPU-heavy, particularly in busy towns full of NPCs and pawns. That makes the processor line more important than usual. The September update included frame-rate optimizations, but if your CPU is at or below the minimum, a big new region will not fix that. If you are planning an upgrade for this and other big fall releases, our guide to the best graphics cards for 4K gaming covers the high end. For Dragon's Dogma 2, the CPU usually decides your frame rate first.
Is Dark Arisen worth it if you already own Dragon's Dogma 2?
We have not played the expansion, and reviews are not out yet. Here is how we would decide based on what Capcom has confirmed.
Probably yes, if...
- You finished the game and wanted more endgame. Lost Rites, with 12 dungeon challenges and rare gear, is aimed at you, and this is the part the original Dark Arisen was remembered for.
- You enjoy exploration. A whole new region with relics that unlock weapons and skills is the kind of content Dragon's Dogma 2 does best.
- You were already planning to return for the free updates. Three save slots, six weapon skills and the Eternal Ferrystone make a fresh run much more comfortable, and $29.99 adds a new destination to that run.
Wait for reviews, if...
- Your main problem with the base game was performance. The expansion does not change the PC requirements, so check post-launch tests first.
- You want a clear sense of length. Capcom has not said how big Norgan is or how long the Forsaken Dominion story runs, and $29.99 is three-quarters of the base game's current price.
- You are considering the Switch 2 version as a second copy. Paying $49.99 again only makes sense once the port's performance has been tested independently.
Skip the bundle either way
If you own the base game, the $49.99 bundle only adds a duplicate base game and two small DLCs you can buy separately. The expansion-only listing is the right purchase. New players are the opposite case: the bundle is clearly the better deal than buying the game and expansion separately.
