007 First Light on Switch 2 Delayed to March 2027: Release Dates on Every Platform

Updated September 27, 2026. 007 First Light on Nintendo Switch 2 is now due in March 2027. IO Interactive announced the delay on September 15, 2026, and has not given an exact day yet. The PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions are not affected: they came out on May 27, 2026 and are available now.

Quick answer

The Switch 2 version of 007 First Light has been delayed from summer 2026 to March 2027, with the exact date "to be communicated later," according to IO Interactive. The game has been out on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC since May 27, 2026. IOI says the extra time goes toward polishing Switch 2 performance. This is the third time the Switch 2 date has moved.

What IO Interactive announced

IO Interactive posted the update on its official 007 First Light social channels on September 15, 2026. The full statement reads:

"Today we would like to provide an update on the Nintendo Switch 2 release of 007 First Light. We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond's reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game."

The announcement gave three concrete facts: a new window (March 2027), no fixed day yet, and a reason (performance polish). It did not say anything about pricing, pre-orders, physical editions or whether the Switch 2 release will use a full cartridge or a Game-Key Card. Coverage from God is a Geek noted that fans replying to the post were asking exactly those questions, and they have not been answered.

The delay only affects Nintendo's console. Nothing changes for players on the other platforms.

007 First Light release dates on every platform

Here is where each version stands as of September 27, 2026. Only the Switch 2 date is still open.

Platform Release date Status
PlayStation 5 / PS5 Pro May 27, 2026 Out now (no PS4 version)
Xbox Series X|S May 27, 2026 Out now
PC (Windows) May 27, 2026 Out now
Nintendo Switch 2 March 2027 (day TBA) Delayed a third time

Digital pre-orders on the launch platforms came with 24 hours of early access starting May 26, 2026, as reported by Forbes. That perk is irrelevant now for PS5, Xbox and PC, and IOI has said nothing about whether the Switch 2 version will get something similar.

How the Switch 2 version got here: three delays

The Switch 2 port has been a moving target since the start of 2026. Based on reporting from VGC and others, the timeline looks like this:

  1. March 27, 2026: the original launch date for the whole game, Switch 2 included.
  2. May 27, 2026: the game slipped two months on all platforms. PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC launched on this date. Switch 2 did not.
  3. Q3 / summer 2026: the Switch 2 version was split off and moved to "later in the summer." IOI CEO Hakan Abrak said at the time that the team wanted more time for optimization.
  4. March 2027: the current window, announced September 15, 2026.

That makes it roughly ten months between the main launch and the earliest possible Switch 2 date. Once a single port has been delayed three times, it is sensible not to trust a date until IOI announces an exact day and pre-orders open.

Why IOI says it needed more time

The official statement only mentions performance. VGC talked to technical producer Cristina Vega, who gave more detail. Her key points, as VGC reported them:

  • The goal is "the most polished form" of the game on Switch 2. According to VGC, she said the delay was not caused by an unexpected technical problem, and she also mentioned team fatigue and marketing coordination as factors.
  • The team is using a rendering technique it calls "Meshlets" for the Switch 2 version, so it can improve performance without cutting content.
  • Cutting NPCs or enemies is "a non-starter," so visual compromises are aimed at non-critical elements like distant object detail.
  • A stable 30fps is the "highest priority." Early tests with a variable frame rate did not work out.

GameDev.net ran the story under the headline that IOI "had no choice" but to delay. That framing comes from the outlet's coverage of the same interview, not from the official statement.

The Switch 2 demo at Gamescom 2026: what was reported

IOI brought a playable Switch 2 build to Gamescom 2026 in late August, weeks before the delay was announced. Several outlets played it or filmed it. Here is what they reported. We have not played it ourselves.

What was in the demo

According to ExpectingMrBond.com's hands-on (August 26, 2026), the demo was the Iceland prologue, capped at 18 minutes. It started at a beach crash site and went over rocky ground to a research camp. Their session was played docked on a TV with a Switch 2 Pro Controller.

Performance and visuals

  • Target: ExpectingMrBond reported a 1080p output at a locked 30fps in both handheld and docked mode, using upscaling.
  • Textures: the same site said textures looked somewhat lower resolution than on PS5, with no obvious streaming problems or compression artifacts. It concluded the compromises "weren't enough to fundamentally change the look or feel of 007 First Light."
  • Comparison: Nintendo Wire's write-up of the show-floor footage described the build as visually comparable to the Xbox Series S version and called it "a smartly optimized version of the game."
  • Nintendo Life captured hands-on footage and said its video producer came away impressed.

The caveat

ExpectingMrBond pointed out that the Iceland section has contained spaces, short sightlines, few enemies and light effects. In other words, it is not the kind of level that would push the hardware hard. A good 18-minute prologue does not tell you how busier levels will run. Given that IOI delayed the port again after the positive Gamescom reaction, it seems likely the demanding parts of the game are where the extra time is going. That is our reading, not something IOI has said.

IOI also showed the same demo at Tokyo Game Show the week the delay was announced. According to AllKeyShop's coverage, the studio said it was "thrilled by the positive feedback" from Gamescom.

Editions and prices

On the platforms where the game is out, the PlayStation Store lists:

  • Standard Edition: $69.99, base game only.
  • Deluxe Edition: $79.99, base game plus 4 exclusive outfits, the Gleaming Pack and 1 weapon skin.
  • Deluxe Upgrade: $19.99, for Standard owners who want the extra cosmetics.

Forbes also reported physical collector's editions before launch, including a Legacy Collector's Edition at $299.99 with a Golden Gun replica. Collector's stock and regional pricing vary, so check the retailer directly before you buy.

Switch 2 price

IOI's delay announcement did not mention a Switch 2 price. Nintendo Life's report gives a listing price of $69.99 / £59.99, which matches the other platforms. Until pre-orders open with a confirmed date and format, treat the Switch 2 price as reported, not final. Nothing has been confirmed about a Switch 2 Deluxe Edition or whether Switch 2 buyers get anything for waiting.

PC system requirements

IOI published five PC spec tiers before launch. The figures below are from Game Informer's report of the official chart (May 8, 2026), which also appears on IOI's player support site. All tiers need Windows 10/11 64-bit and an 80GB SSD.

Tier Target CPU GPU (VRAM) RAM
Minimum 1080p / 30fps Core i5-9500 / Ryzen 5 3500 GTX 1660 / RX 5700 (6GB) 16GB
Recommended 1080p / 60fps Core i5-13500 / Ryzen 5 7600 RTX 3060 Ti / RX 6700 XT (8GB) 16GB
Enthusiast 1 1440p / 60fps Core i5-13500 / Ryzen 5 7600 RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT (12GB) 16GB
Enthusiast 2 4K / 60fps Core i5-13500 / Ryzen 5 7600 RTX 4080 / RX 7900 XTX (16GB) 16GB
Ultra 4K / 200+fps (DLSS 4.5) Core i5-13600K / Ryzen 7 7700X RTX 5080 (16GB) 32GB

The SSD requirement applies at every tier, so a hard drive is not an option even at minimum settings. The Ultra figure of 200+fps relies on DLSS frame generation, so it is not the same as native rendering at that frame rate.

How 007 First Light reviewed

Critics were strongly positive. As of September 27, 2026:

  • OpenCritic: a "Mighty" rating with a Top Critic Average of 87 and 97% of critics recommending it, across more than 180 reviews.
  • Metacritic: 87 on PS5, 88 on Xbox Series X and 84 on PC.
  • IGN (9/10): Luke Reilly called it "the best Bond game I've ever played."
  • The Washington Post (100 on Metacritic) called it "not only the best Bond game ever made" but "the best Bond story since 'Casino Royale' in 2006."
  • The Guardian and VGC both gave it 5/5. Eurogamer gave it 4/5 and GameSpot 8/10, according to Wikipedia's reception summary.

It was not universal praise. PC Gamer wrote that the game "shines, but not enough to compensate for the very familiar game around it." Other critics quoted on Metacritic said it waters down the systemic complexity IOI is known for from Hitman. If you want a sandbox like Hitman, this is a more guided, cinematic game.

All of these reviews cover the PS5, Xbox and PC versions. No Switch 2 version has been reviewed. Those scores tell you the game is good, not that the port will hold up. For Switch 2, wait for performance coverage of the final build.

What is confirmed and what is still speculation

Confirmed

  • Switch 2 window: March 2027, exact day to be announced (IOI, September 15, 2026).
  • Reason given: polishing Switch 2 performance (IOI).
  • PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC launched May 27, 2026.
  • A playable Switch 2 build was shown at Gamescom 2026 and Tokyo Game Show 2026.
  • Stable 30fps is the team's top performance priority (Cristina Vega, via VGC).

Not confirmed

  • The exact March 2027 day.
  • Final Switch 2 price and editions. $69.99 / £59.99 is reported, not announced alongside the delay.
  • Whether the Switch 2 physical release is a full cartridge or a Game-Key Card.
  • Final Switch 2 resolution, handheld performance, and how later, busier levels run.

Some coverage has said the new window conveniently avoids a crowded fall that includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and GTA 6. That is outlet commentary. IOI's statement only mentions performance.

Should you wait for Switch 2 or buy elsewhere?

If you own a PS5, Xbox Series X|S or a PC that meets the specs, the game is already out, well reviewed, and has launch reviews to judge it by. If Switch 2 is your only platform, the reported Gamescom impressions are encouraging, but they come from a short, undemanding prologue. And the date has already slipped three times.

The practical advice is to wait for IOI to announce the exact March 2027 date, then wait for performance reviews of the final Switch 2 build before you pay. There is no reason to lock in a pre-order for a port with no date. If you are looking for something to play in the meantime, our October 2026 release calendar covers what is coming next.

Frequently Asked Questions

QWhen does 007 First Light come out on Switch 2?

IO Interactive says March 2027. The exact day has not been announced yet and will be "communicated later."

QWhy was 007 First Light delayed on Switch 2?

IOI's official reason is polishing Switch 2 performance. Technical producer Cristina Vega told VGC that a stable 30fps is the top priority and that the team does not want to cut NPCs or enemies to get there.

QIs 007 First Light out on PS5, Xbox and PC?

Yes. It launched on May 27, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The PlayStation Store lists it as PS5-only, with no PS4 version.

QHow much will 007 First Light cost on Switch 2?

IOI did not give a price with the delay. Nintendo Life reports $69.99 / £59.99, the same as the Standard Edition on other platforms. Treat that as provisional until pre-orders open.

QHow did the Switch 2 version look at Gamescom?

Reports were positive. Outlets described a 30fps target, textures a step below PS5, and a look comparable to Xbox Series S. The demo was only the 18-minute Iceland prologue, though, so it does not show how heavier levels run.

QWhat are the minimum PC requirements for 007 First Light?

For 1080p at 30fps: a Core i5-9500 or Ryzen 5 3500, a GTX 1660 or RX 5700 with 6GB VRAM, 16GB RAM, and an 80GB SSD on Windows 10/11 64-bit.

Sources checked on September 27, 2026 against IO Interactive's official 007 First Light announcement and player support site, the PlayStation Store listing, OpenCritic, Metacritic, and reporting from VGC, Nintendo Life, Game Informer and ExpectingMrBond.com.
